Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday invited several personalities from the Hindi film industry in Mumbai to discuss the merits of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Amid the ongoing protests against the newly passed citizenship legislation and NRC, the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has initiated a campaign to convince the merits of CAA to citizens.
The gathering including prominent Hindi cinema personalities was called by Piyush Goyal at a five-star hotel in suburban Mumbai. For the meeting, the list of invitees included Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar.
However, the names of actors and filmmakers including Swara Bhasker, Anurag Kashyap, Richa Chadha and Anubhav Sinha were missing from the list. They have been extremely vocal regarding their opposition against CAA and NRC.

As this happened, a group of protestors demonstrated outside the five-star hotel under the banner of ‘Hum Bharat Ke Log’ (HBKL). The protestors held placards opposing the act outside the venue.
