A year after quitting the Congress party, actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar is all set to make a comeback actively in politics by joining hands with Shiv Sena.

According to reports, Matondkar, who had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai North constituency on a Congress ticket, will join the Sena this week in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his son Aaditya Thackeray and Harshal Pradhan.

The 46-year-old has been nominated by the Sena to the Legislative Council under the Governor's quota. A list of 12 names, including Matondkar’s name has been forwarded to Governor BS Koshyari by the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government for their nomination from the governor's quota. The governor is yet to approve the list.

During the Lok Sabha polls, while she lost the election by a huge margin to sitting MP Gopal Shetty, Matondkar grabbed eyeballs with her campaign and understanding of politics. Contesting on a seat that was a BJP stronghold, Matondkar won over many in strong Marathi belts in the constituency.

Matondkar recently engaged in a war of words with actor Kangana Ranaut, who equated Mumbai with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and criticised the Thackeray government in the state.
