On Wednesday, November 22, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced the dates of general elections for 105 Nagar Panchayats in 32 districts.

The polling will be held on December 21, 2021 from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm and the counting of votes will take place the next day, that is on December 22, 2021 at 10 am.

For this, the model code of conduct has been implemented in the area of the respective Nagar Panchayats from Wednesday, November 23, said State Election Commissioner UPS Madan.

SEC chief Madan also mentioned that elections will be held for 81 Nagar Panchayats whose term ended between April 2020 and May 2021, 18 whose term will end in December 2021, and six newly formed ones.

Nominations will be accepted between December 1-7, 2021. However, nominations will not be accepted on December 4-5 owing to the holidays.

According to reports, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on December 8, 2021. Candidates contesting on reserved seats are required to submit caste certificates and caste validity certificates along with nomination papers.

The polling should be carried out by following the COVID-19 norms set by the Central and State Governments. In this regard, instructions have been given to the District Collectors concerned to take action as per the guidelines issued by the State Election Commission, he added.
