CST - “State Government wants to rob off the fishermen by building a statue of Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian Sea. We will not vote for BJP in upcoming BMC election,” warned Damodar Tandel, president of Akhil Maharashtra Machhimar Kriti Samiti.
He expressed his displeasure during a press conference which took place at Marathi Patrakar Sangh on Friday. He added that they are not opposing the statute but the place. He said that the statue will prove harmful to Mumbai’s coastline. He further added that, if the statue is built on the 42-acre area near the Cuff Parade, then fishermen won't be able to do fishing there. “Government should erect this statue at Mahalaxmi racecourse instead of the Arabian sea. We will protest against this on the day of inauguration ceremony with 5000 boats,” concluded Damodar Tandel.
