A shocking incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Powai, when a man named Rohit Arya took 17 minor children and two adults hostage.
The police took swift action and rescued all the children, but Rohit Arya was killed in the encounter. It is now being reported that this incident took place due to a financial dispute related to the education department. The name of former school education minister Deepak Kesarkar has come to the fore in this matter and he has given a detailed response on this.
I paid the money myself by cheque - Deepak Kesarkar
Former minister Deepak Kesarkar told the media, “Rohit Arya was running a scheme called ‘Swachhta Monitor’. He was also involved in the project ‘My School, Beautiful School’. In that regard, the department received information that they had collected fees from some children. However, Arya had denied these allegations. If he had any claim, he should have discussed it with the department and submitted it along with documents.”
Kesarkar further said, "I had personally helped him when I was the education minister. I had personally given him the money through a cheque. But for the payment that comes from the government, the prescribed formalities have to be completed." "So I don't think his claim of 'receiving two crore rupees' is correct. The department will have all his documents, that's the only way to confirm it. But despite all these factors, it is not right to keep children hostage in this way," Kesarkar explained.
Education Department Scammed INR 2 Crore - Rohit Arya Alleges
According to a report in India Today, Rohit Arya had made serious allegations against the then Education Department. He had said that the idea of 'My School, Beautiful School' was based on his concept. He created this idea himself. It was inspired by his film 'Let's Change'. According to him, the Maharashtra government used his idea, but did not give him credit or remuneration. He claimed that the government also used the rights to his film and took full credit for the project. Arya also alleged that some officials in the education department delayed his payment by holding his files. Earlier, Arya had also protested in front of Deepak Kesarkar's house. However, the hunger strike ended with the promise of resolving the issue.
However, after failing to fulfill his promise, he warned, "If I commit suicide, Deepak Kesarkar, his personal secretary Mangesh Shinde, the then education commissioner Suraj Mandhare, Tushar Mahajan and Sameer Sawant will be responsible."
It is understood that he ultimately decided to commit suicide by kidnapping due to this dispute. The police took action and rescued everyone, but Rohit Arya was killed in the encounter.
