Amid the recent nationwide protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizen (NRC), the newly elected Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray has issued a statement stating that he will not give any permission to set up any detention camps in Maharashtra.

The statement was followed after there were speculations that the government was building a detention camp in Navi Mumbai. Thackeray assured a delegation of the Muslim community that he will not allow this by clarifying that detention camps are for foreign nationals who have served their sentence so that they can go ahead with their deportation process. However, we will not allow any detention camps in the state specifically for Muslims.
