The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) had floated tenders to find a developer to redevelop Motilal Nagar in Goregaon on Friday, October 29.

According to the reports, the colony, which MHADA owns, includes 3,700 tenements and 1,600 slum hutments. However, an official said that a survey is currently underway to find out the exact number of slum hutments and the eligible tenements. Nearly 33,000 flats will be available post redevelopment. Each residential structure will have 1,600 sq feet flats, while each non-residential structure will have 976 sq feet flats. If the cost of construction goes above 833.8 sq ft, it shall be borne by the developer.

An official said that they would carry out the project in a phase-wise manner. The developer will be providing transit accommodation to the residents. They have been given a deadline of seven years to complete the project.

A Motilal Nagar Vikas Samiti was formed to discuss the tenants' issues of Motilal Nagar redevelopment. They claimed that before announcing the redevelopment project, the government and MHADA did not take them into confidence. The residents held a meeting to discuss the issue on Sunday, October 31.
