The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls are set to take place next year, and the corporators are rushing to beautify junctions and footpaths in their areas. Recently, proposals for beautification works for traffic islands, dividers, footpaths and junctions in Byculla were tabled before the Standing Committee for approval.

The proposals for beautification works were worth over INR 3.5 crores. They will do the work in electoral areas of Samajwadi Party corporator Rais Shaikh, Congress corporator Sonam Jamsutkar and Shiv Sena’s Ramakant Rahate, state proposals.

They have proposed INR 1.14 crores to be spent on improving footpaths from JJ Marg to Y Bridge, while INR 55.46 lakh is proposed for the beautification of Govindrao Chowk. INR 1.1 crore is proposed to beautify Ismail Merchant traffic island and INR 1 crore for depicting murals on the walls around the Byculla area. However, on Wednesday, October 27, these proposals were held back in the Standing Committee meeting after BJP corporators said they got the proposals very late and did not get time to study them.

The BMC polls are scheduled to take place in February 2022. On Thursday, October 28, the civic authority requested the citizens to register themselves as voters.
