Nifty and Sensex ended in green post a volatile trading session on August 5.
At close, the Sensex was up 123.07 points or 0.23 per cent at 54,492.84 and the Nifty was up 35.80 points or 0.22 per cent at 16,294.60.
About 1036 shares have advanced, 1933 shares declined and 101 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Bharti Airtel (4.23 per cent), Eicher Motors (3.42 per cent), ITC (3.19 per cent), Tech Mahindra (2.61 per cent) and Tata Steel (2.15 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while SBI (-3.30 per cent), IndusInd Bank (-2.24 per cent), Bajaj Finance (-1.74 per cent), ICICI Bank (-1.71 per cent) and Bajaj Finserv (-1.36 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, Nifty PSU Bank index lost 2 per cent, while Metal and IT indices were up 1 per cent and 0.7 per cent each.
The BSE Midcap index was up 0.10 per cent, while Smallcap index lost 0.43 per cent.
Author’s View: Sustaining above 16200 is the key factor from a short-term perspective, maintaining above this level is important for the market to gain momentum and extend the rally until 16500. The momentum indicators like RSI and MACD indicating a positive outlook to continue.
