Benchmark indices ended in green post a volatile trading session.
At close, the Sensex was up 125.13 points or 0.23 per cent at 54402.85, and the Nifty was up 20.10 points or 0.12% per cent 16258.30.
About 1141 shares have advanced, 1951 shares declined, and 103 shares are unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, M&M (2.20 per cent), Axis Bank (1.98 per cent), Tech Mahindra (1.81 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (1.69 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (1.29 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Tata Consumer Products (-2.11 per cent), Coal India (-1.95 per cent), Hindalco (-1.68 per cent), Adani Ports (-1.52 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (-1.42 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, the metal, oil & gas, and PSU bank indices lost 1.5-2 percent.
The BSE midcap and smallcap indices fell 0.6-1 per cent.
Author’s View: Sustaining above 16200, the market expects to gain momentum, leading to an upside projection till 16450-16500 level. The momentum indicators like RSI and MACD indicating a positive outlook to continue.
