Registration for the 22nd edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon has opened, with the event scheduled to take place on January 17, 2027.

The registration launch was held at Sahyadri State Guest House in Mumbai in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar. She said the marathon has grown beyond being a sporting event and has become an important part of Mumbai’s identity and Maharashtra’s sporting culture.

First held in 2004, the Tata Mumbai Marathon has attracted runners from across India and around the world. The event has also played a role in promoting fitness and encouraging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles.

According to the Maharashtra government, the marathon is expected to generate an economic impact of around Rs 650 crore this year. Pawar said the event also supports sectors such as tourism, travel, fitness, sporting goods and technology.

She added that initiatives such as the marathon are helping promote the message of a “Fit Maharashtra, Strong Maharashtra” and encouraging people to make fitness part of their daily lives.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said the marathon has helped place Mumbai on the global sporting map. He described it as an event that reflects the city’s energy and brings together citizens, government agencies, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and police authorities.

The Tata Mumbai Marathon has now become one of Mumbai’s biggest annual sporting events, combining mass participation with fitness awareness and social engagement.
