The benchmark ended with marginal gains. Nifty ends above 14,850, and the Sensex gains close 100 points on 8th April 2021. Metal stocks outperform.
At close, the Sensex was up 84.45 points or 0.17 per cent at 49,746.21 and the Nifty was up 54.80 points or 0.37 per cent at 14,873.80.
About 1846 shares have advanced, 1022 shares declined and 157 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, JSW Steel (9.21 per cent), Tata Steel (4.98 per cent), Shree Cements (4.47 per cent), Titan Company (3.78 per cent) and Hindalco (3.69 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while IndusInd Bank (-1.13 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (-1.09 per cent), Sun Pharma (-1.09 per cent), HDFC Bank (-1.00 per cent) and ONGC (-1.00 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, Metal index gained nearly 4 per cent, while Infra and IT index rose a per cent each. However, Nifty Bank lost about half a per cent to close in red.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.60 per cent and 0.73 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: The market successfully crossed 14,950 level but failed sustain there. If we are able to get past 14,950 level on a closing basis, we could move towards a new all-time high.
