Nifty Ends Above 15,850 & Sensex Jumps 226 Points

The benchmark indices ended higher for the second consecutive day backed by strong global cues and heavy buying in metal and financial stocks.

At close, the Sensex was up 226.04 points or 0.43 per cent at 52,925.04 and the Nifty was up 69.90 points or 0.44 per cent at 15,860.40.

About 1737 shares have advanced, 1393 shares declined and 142 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Tata Steel (4.68 per cent), Axis Bank (3.00 per cent), SBI (2.78 per cent), ICICI Bank (2.36 per cent) and Hindalco (1.86 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Reliance (-2.28 per cent), HUL (-1.67 per cent), NTPC (-1.65 per cent), Titan Company (-1.52 per cent) and Asian Paints (-1.29 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty Energy (-0.59 per cent) and Nifty FMCG (-0.65 per cent) all the other sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty PSU Bank (2.64 per cent), Nifty Metal (2.61 per cent) and Nifty Bank (1.54 per cent) were the top performing sectors for the day.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices gained 1.03 per cent and 0.40 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: Trend for Nifty looks positive on a short term basis. If it sustains at the current level, we might witness an up move in the index till 16,000 – 16,100.
