Stock Market Highlights: Sensex Rallies 248 Points to End at New Peak

Nifty settled above 14,550 level while the Sensex was up 0.50 per cent. The Auto and the financial stocks led the rally.

At close, the Sensex was up 247.49 points or 0.50 per cent at 49,517.11 and the Nifty was up 78.70 points or 0.54 per cent at 14,563.50. About 1647 shares have advanced, 1387 shares declined and 158 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Tata Motors (7.77 per cent), GAIL (4.20 per cent), Eicher Motors (3.76 per cent) and SBI (3.54 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Asian Paints (-4.52 per cent), Titan Company (-2.35 per cent), HUL (-2.19 per cent) and Nestle (-2.13 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Realty (2.76 per cent), Nifty Auto (1.24 per cent), Nifty Infra (1.54 per cent), Nifty Bank (1.06 per cent) and Nifty Energy (1.29 per cent) outperformed the benchmark indices, while Nifty Pharma (-1.25 per cent), Nifty IT (-0.17 per cent), Nifty FMCG (-0.56 per cent) and Nifty Consumption (-0.52) witnessed selling pressure and closed in the red.
