Stock Market Highlights: Sensex and Nifty end with minor gains

Sensex and Nifty end with minor gains post a volatile trading session on 6^th April 2021. Metal and Pharma stocks outperformed.

At close, the Sensex was up 42.07 points or 0.09 per cent at 49,201.39 and the Nifty was up 45.70 points or 0.31 per cent at 14,683.50. About 1654 shares have advanced, 1176 shares declined and 179 shares are unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Adani Ports (12.57 per cent), Tata Consumer Products (4.59 per cent), Asian Paints (4.02 per cent), JSW Steel (3.86 per cent) and SBI Life Insurance (2.87 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Power Grid Corp (-2.31 per cent), Eicher Motors (-1.22 per cent), IndusInd Bank (-1.08 per cent), Axis Bank (-1.07 per cent) and Grasim (-0.96 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, other than Nifty Bank, Nifty Energy and Nifty PSU Bank all other sectoral indices ended in the green. Nifty Pharma (1.76 per cent) and Nifty Metal (1.43 per cent) were the top-performing sectors for the day.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 1 per cent and 0.84 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: The index is trading in a range between 14,450 and 14,900. No clear trend has been established from the last few trading sessions. If we get past 14,950 we might head towards 15,300 on the other side if break 14,450 we might see a further drop till 14,200.
