The Benchmark indices end their day in green after a volatile session today. Nifty manages to close above 13,500 level while the BSE Sensex ends above 46,000 level. The upwards rally in the index was led by Oil and Metal stocks.

At close, the BSE Sensex rose 139.13 points or 0.30 per cent at 46,099.01 and Nifty rose 35.60 points or 0.26 per cent at 13,513.90.

1713 shares have advanced. 1188 shares declined and 148 shares remain unchanged.

ONGC (5.62 per cent), NTPC (5.40 per cent), GAIL (4.83 per cent) and Coal India (2.52 per cent) were among the top gainers on Nifty, while Divis Labs (-2.42 per cent), Axis Bank (-2.20 per cent), M&M (-1.17 per cent) and Adani Ports (-1.00 per cent) were among the top losers.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU indices gained 1 per cent each and outperformed, while the Pharma, IT and Auto indices witnessed selling pressure and underperformed. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended with minor gains.

Author’s View: We will continue to see a range-bound trade in Nifty. The range has however moved up to 13,400 – 13,600. The market is likely to remain choppy, hence fresh trade can be initiated when Nifty touches the lower or upper end of the range
