Stock Market Highlights: Sensex scores another high, Metals, Pharma, Auto and Realty stocks lead

Indian benchmark indices end at record high led by gains in Metals, Pharma, Auto and Realty stocks.

The Sensex ended 403.29 points or 0.87 per cent higher at 46,666.46 while Nifty gained 114.85 points or 0.85 per cent to close at 13,682.70. Nifty Bank underperformed the frontline indices and ended flat at 30,698.40.

All the sectoral indices ended in the green. Nifty Realty (5.14 per cent), Nifty Metal (1.79 per cent) and Nifty Consumption (1.21 per cent) were the top-performing sectors for the day followed by Nifty Pharma and Nifty Auto which gained close to 1 per cent each.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose 0.8 per cent each.

On Nifty 50 index HDFC (3.16 per cent), Hindalco (2.82 per cent), Divis Labs (2.47 per cent) and ONGC (2.44 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while ICICI Bank (-1.08 per cent), NTPC (-0.90 per cent), UltraTech Cement (-0.85 per cent) and GAIL (-0.68 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

Author’s View: Nifty closed towards the upper end of the resistance range of 13,400-13,700. Traders must be cautious while initiating fresh positions. Traders with existing positions must trail their stop loss.
