Stock Market Highlights: Sensex zooms 257 points, Nifty ends over 15,000

Nifty ends over 15,000 while the Sensex jumps 257 points at the end of February series. The metal and energy stocks outperformed.

At close, the Sensex was up 257.62 points or 0.51 per cent at 51,039.31 and the Nifty was up 115.40 points or 0.77 per cent at 15,097.40. About 1755 shares have advanced, 1149 shares declined and 169 shares are unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Coal India (8.10 per cent), UPL (7.05 per cent), Adani Ports (5.88 per cent), Hindalco (5.38 per cent) and BPCL (5.21 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while ICICI Bank (-2.04 per cent), Nestle (-1.42 per cent), Larsen (-1.32 per cent), Titan Company (-1.20 per cent) and Divis Labs (-1.15 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Financial Service and FMCG all other indices ended in green led by Metal and Energy indices which rose by 3.97 per cent and 3.05 per cent respectively.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were up 1.09 per cent and 1.42 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: Nifty showed a quick recovery from its short term support and might consolidate a bit between 15,000 – 15,250 levels. A decisive breakout above 15,250 can drive Nifty to 15,500  levels in a few trading sessions.
