The benchmark indices gave up intraday gains to end flat on July 6, dragged by Auto, IT, Metal and Pharma stocks.

At close, the Sensex was down 18.82 points or 0.04 per cent at 52,861.18 and the Nifty was down 16.10 points or 0.10 per cent at 15,818.30.

About 1,557 shares have advanced, 1,624 shares declined and 121 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Ultratech Cement (3.17 per cent), Shree Cement (2.90 per cent), HDFC Bank (2.62 per cent), Bajaj Finance (2.14 per cent) and Bajaj FInserv (1.41 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Tata Motors (-8.44 per cent), Gland (-2.48 per cent), Tech Mahindra (-2.34 per cent), TCS (-1.77 per cent) and Coal India (-1.60 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Bank gained over 1 per cent while other sectoral indices ended in red.

The BSE Midcap index gained 0.19 per cent while the Smallcap index lost 0.26 per cent.

Author’s View: Sustaining above 15,900 is the key factor from a short-term perspective. If Nifty crosses 15,900 on closing basis it would gain momentum and we can see an extended rally till 16,200.
