A 100-year-old woman, on her birth anniversary, was vaccinated against COVID-19. Prabhavati Khedkar, a centenarian, was given the first jab of the vaccine on March 6 at the BKC jumbo vaccination centre in Mumbai.

As the inoculation coincided with her 100th birthday not just she received COVID-19 vaccine shot, the 100-year-old Khedkar also celebrated her birthday with healthcare workers at the vaccination centre.

The hospital officials noticed the date of birth from her Aadhar Card, which mentioned March 5, 1921. They immediately organized a cake to celebrate her Centenary Birthday. The video has gone viral where officials helped her cut a cake to mark the occasion.

Moreover, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Maharashtra government has set up five COVID-19 vaccination centres in each district of the state exclusively for inoculating women. These centres will remain operational only for the day, a health official said.

Women willing to take the vaccine can go to these centres during the day, he said.

However, there are 19 such centres in the Thane district due to higher demand there. There are 189 such centres in the state exclusively for vaccinating women, an official said.

The second phase of the vaccination drive began on March 1, 2021, for people aged above 60 years and those above 45 years of age with comorbidities. The total number of coronavirus vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 20 million, the Union Health Ministry said on March 8.
