Following a two-year gap owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the yearly Mount Mary fair, popularly known as the Bandra Fair will be conducted this year from September 11 to 18, reported the Times of India.

Based on the account, the week-long fair is conducted to celebrate the birthday of the mother of Jesus Christ, Mother Mary. It is believed to be one of the largest gatherings in the western suburbs.

On Tuesday, July 26, BMC officials and basilica personnel took a preliminary reconnaissance of the church and the vicinity where the vendors put up stalls, the narrative mentioned.

However, according to the report, official approvals for the fair are awaited. If the fair does happen to transpire, the authorities are anticipating a higher footfall considering the gap of two years.

A civic official was quoted in the narrative elaborating on how soon a proposal will be tabled before the higher authorities. Once the permissions are sought, a joint meeting of various stakeholders such as the fire brigade, BEST, traffic police and local police will be held. Moreover, auctioning of the stalls will also happen.

According to the report, illegal encroachments will not be allowed as well as all dos and don'ts in accordance with the court's guidelines will be adhered to. It is anticipated that mini BEST buses will be used to ferry commuters, mentioned the account.
