Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, and Borivali Traffic Police joined hands to spread awareness and educate people on road safety and to take precaution on roads to avoid any mishaps. Also, CPR training was given to the Borivali Traffic Police, apart from general public, traffic men, coolies at Borivali Railway Station. Present on the occasion was Dr Pankaj Dhamija, Centre Head, Raghavendra Thakur, Assistant Commissioner of Police, North Division, Traffic Police, Dr Ankur Jain Consultant Internal Medicine and Dr Sharad Thakur Emergency Medicine Physician.
Road Safety is a matter of concern as number of people succumb to injuries that occur in road accidents. It is a known fact that accidents happen due to carelessness as one fails to follow safety rules. Many people suffer serious injuries owing to speeding, drinking and driving, reckless driving, not using seatbelts and helmets, or mobile usage. Hence, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road and Borivali Traffic Police have come forward to help people avoid road accidents and travel safely. Also arise in heart cases Wockhardt Hospitals took initiative to give CPR training to Traffic Police.
Dr. Pankaj Dhamija, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, said, “Currently, road accident cases are rising. A majority of people fail to follow traffic rules and lose their precious lives. A Road Safety campaign was carried out wherein volunteers from the Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road along with Borivali Traffic Police displayed placards of Road Safety messages like Wear Seat Belt, No Drink and Drive, No Mobile while driving, Follow Traffic rules etc. at major junctions like Chandavarkar Road, L.T Road, Sumer Nagar, Sai baba Nagar, Don Bosco Junction, Chikuwadi Junction, Shimpoli Road. Emergency medical guide book was distributed to people during this campaign.”
Dr Pankaj Dhamija added, “Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency lifesaving procedure done when one’s heart stops beating. It involves chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth (rescue breaths) to restore the blood and oxygen supply in the body. It can be given to a person who is unconscious, irresponsive and not breathing or is breathing abnormally. CPR training was conducted at Borivali Railway station wherein hundreds of people participated. Even hands-on CPR training was given to Traffic Police at Borivali Railway Station as well as in Wockhardt Hospitals, Borivali Clinic.
“It is imperative for people to follow traffic rules for their own safety. But people fail to follow the rules or don’t even wear helmets even after giving repetitive warnings. We respect the decision of Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road to collaborate with us for creating awareness regarding road safety. Our motto is to cover as many people as we can under this unique initiative,” said Raghavendra Thakur, Assistant Commissioner of police, North Division Traffic.
