In the recent edition of 'Saraswat Ratna Puraskar' which was held on July 20 at B.N. Vaidya Hall in Dadar, renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Premanand Ramani was felicitated with the gracious presence of Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Padma Bhushan Dr. Nandkishore Laud, Chairman of Saraswat Bank Gautam Thakur and celebrated actor Ashok Saraf.
The All India Saraswat Organisation was established in 1972 and the Saraswat Ratna Puraskar was commenced to celebrate distinguished achievements of people in their respective field. Other attendees included Varsha Usgaonkar, Madhu Mangesh Karnik and Mohandas Sukhatankar. Dr. Premanand Ramani is an Indian neurosurgeon and writer from Goa who is known for his work in Newcastle University and his neuro spinal surgery technique of Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF). He is currently the senior neuro spinal surgeon at Lilavati Hospital. An annual marathon is held in his honour in Goa which is titled as 'Dr. P. S. Ramani Goa Marathon.'
Speaking about Ramani's contribution, Dr. Pramod Sawant said,
It's an honour to felicitate such an esteemed doctor whose contribution towards the society has been immense. Dr. Ramani will further be awarded with 'Gomantak Bhushan' in Goa on September 28.
Notably, Dr. Ramani has also been awarded David Dickson Research Man of the Year Award, Newcastle University; Paul Bucy Award, Chicago University; Walter Dandy Neurosurgical Society's Dandy Medal, United States of America.
