The ‘Corona Quilt Project’ which was inaugurated on March 12, by Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray was launched in the early days of the coronavirus outbreak as a way to reach out to people in order to discuss self-expression and mental health and bring different communities together.

The team of Mumbai Live got in touch with Gayatri Divecha, Associate Vice President, Good & Green, Godrej Industries Ltd. Speaking about being associated with the project as the Godrej family she elucidated on how the project is helping bring about different communities together. Divecha stated, “The project is a crowdsource artwork. People across different places and classes across Mumbai are contributing to this project. It’s all weaved together as one massive quilt that ties all these experiences together. When you submit a square you feel your story was unique. When you’ll see your square up with thousands of others you’ll know how your experience resonates with so many others. It’s connecting us together and marking this historic time we’re living in,”

Further speaking about the artists working on the project, she stated, The artists are people like you and me. At Godrej, my family and I have submitted a few squares, our senior leaders and management have, our team members across all levels have, and our NGO partners and their kids have. The presentation has been done by artist Dia Bhupal and is symbolic of the transformative journey of this pandemic,”

Moreover, the project is inspired by the AIDS Quilt created in San Francisco in the late 80s/early 90s. Talking about the use of natural elements in the artwork, the Associate Vice President added, “The pandemic made us pause and look at nature with renewed awe hence the project presentation draws coming together of all-natural elements,”
