As soon as the Maharashtra government permitted places of worship to reopen, the iconic shrine of Sufi saint Makhdoom Ali Mahimi, famously known as Mahim Dargah, has stated that it may issue passes to the devotees to check the overcrowding of people.

The management of the Mahim Dargah is to observe footfalls on the shrine for one more day before making the said decision. Moreover, unlike the Haji Ali Dargah, as there is a lack of space, it has been difficult to control the crowd, as per reports.

Earlier on Monday, November 16, temples and other places of worship were allowed to reopen in Maharashtra. Due to the pandemic, religious places had been closed in the state and most other states since March. There has been strong pressure from the opposition BJP, backed by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to open religious places for the last couple of months.

As part of the Standard Operating Procedures or SOPs, the governing bodies of the religious places are to be responsible for crowd management and to check the crowd for people above 65, children below 10, and pregnant women who have been advised to stay at home.

However, in recent developments, the Shirdi's Sai baba temple witnessed huge crowds. Although, at the Siddhivinayak in the city of Mumbai, the area was comparatively crowd-free as only those with either a QR code or an offline pass were permitted inside the premises. In addition, the state government has forbidden the devotees to carry flowers, worship materials, offerings and other materials with regards to worship in the Mahalakshmi and Mumbadevi temples. Similarly, no offerings are to be given to the devotees in the temple.
