Established in 1977, Film City in Mumbai is one of the largest studio complexes in India. Even though the Island City is known for the functionality of the Hindi Film Industry, Film City offers several recording rooms, gardens, lakes, theatres and grounds that serve as the venue.

Moreover, it is spread over one lakh sq. ft. of built-up air-conditioned and acoustically treated studio facilities-with power, water, trained support staff, catering and hospitality facilities. Located near the Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Goregaon East, Film City was renamed Dadasaheb Phalke Chitra Nagari in 2001 in memory of India's first producer-director-screenwriter Dadasaheb Phalke, who is considered the father of the Indian film industry.

In order to boost entertainment in India, the then Maharashtra Government had taken the initiative to construct Film City. Even though one can visit the place, one should take prior permission to visit Film City.

In addition, Film City also boasts of having all the modern state-of-the-art technology, which helps in making movies with ease. Film City has become a major shooting location for the entire Hindi film industry, which is popularly known as Bollywood. In the earlier days, over 900 films apart from the television shows were shot here, making their contribution to the Hindi film industry tremendously immense.

Meanwhile, even though the outbreak of the coronavirus severely impacted the entertainment business, in the month of March, movies such as Roohi, Time to Dance, Fauji, Mumbai Saga and  Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar are slated to release.
