Mumbai Hospital Launches Unique Rehabilitation Program for Parkinsonism Community

This Program consisting of 27 Group–based sessions with 8 visits (3 sessions per visit) over a month addresses Physical, Emotional and Psychological needs of those living with Parkinson’s disease and related disorders.

On the occasion of this year’s World Parkinson’s Day, Mumbai’s well-known Multi-specialty Hospital, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital formally launched a unique Hospital based integrated Rehabilitation Program for the Parkinson’s Disease Patients called ‘The Next Move Program’. 

This Program consisting of 27 Group–based sessions with 8 visits (3 sessions per visit) over a month addresses Physical, Emotional and Psychological needs of those living with Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. Some of the prime sessions are Physiotherapy, Group Fitness, Yoga sessions, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Music Therapy, Group Singing, Art Therapy, Psychological Counselling, Patient Support Groups, Neurology Assessment, Caregiver Burnout, WhatsApp Support Groups, Quarterly Events for Patient feedback. This program will also address the issue of stress and mental agony the relatives/care-giver to the Parkinson’s disease patients go through.

On the occasion of World Parkinson’s Day, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital had organised free for all one and half hour talk for general public to give an outline of its The Next Move Program, wherein a core team members of program gave an insight into various aspects of Parkinson’s disease. The team included Dr Sachin Adukia - Program Co-ordinator and Neurologist, Dr Vidya Roan Karane – Neurophysiotherapist & Aerobic Trainer, Dr Gauri Raut – Clinical Psychlogist, Ms Komal Renuke – Speech Therapist, Dr Megha Sheth – Occupational Therapist, Ms Vandana Hegde - Yoga Instructor & Music Therapist. The participants leaned about many fact about this disease and were guided on will also address the issue of stress and mental agony the relatives/care giver to the Parkinson’s disease patients go through.

While commenting on the uniqueness of the specially designed program by the hospital Dr Sachin Adukia –  Program Co-ordinator and Neurologist at L H Hiranandani Hospital said: “While other such programs focus on just few activities like Meditation, Dance and Music therapies, our ‘The Next Move Program’ includes five more activities in addition to these, making it the most integrated and one of its kind Parkinson’s rehabilitation program in the state”.  “We look forward to maximum people who are suffering from Parkinson’s disease get benefit of this thoughtfully designed program,” he further added.
