As previously reported, a new five-star property will be developed at Shiroda Velagar in Sindhudurg. The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has finalised the plans by signing an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Indian Hotels Company Ltd, otherwise known as the Taj Group, for the development of this new property at 54.40 hectares of government land.
The land use has been permitted and comes with a 90-year lease primarily to boost tourism in the Konkan region. Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray had said earlier today that a Taj property will be coming up in Sindhudurg.

As per the terms of the MoU, Indian Hotels Group will make an investment of ₹100 crores during the first phase of this project. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was present during the signing of the MoU and said he favoured the idea of providing industry status to the tourism industry which has been hit severely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
