Just like eye and stomach infections, skin allergies are rampant during monsoon. A large number of people suffer from skin rashes, irritation, and itchy skin which can cause discomfort.

Monsoon is synonymous with skin allergies. The humid weather in the monsoon sets the stage for bacteria and germs to multiply and cause skin allergies.

“Rashes on the skin, itching without rashes, itching on specific areas which come in contact with rubber/plastic due to rainy shoes, raincoats in those allergic to these products, breathing difficulties, running nose, itchy eyes along with skin itching/ rashes are commonly seen in young adults and senior citizens age group for 15- to 80-year-old people.  These rashes can be painful, embarrassing, and disturbing. Till now, many people have complained of monsoon allergies. It is the need of the hour to take utmost care of the skin. It is the need of the hour to prevent allergies by taking various measures such as wearing dry clothes, maintaining good personal hygiene, and avoiding rubber, and plastic wear.

Dr Aniket Mule, consultant internal medicine, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road added, “One should use products such as medicated soaps, antifungal and antibacterial creams, and powder recommended by the doctor only. To keep skin allergies, at bay, wear dry clothes and keep the body parts dry. Check for leakage of walls as moulds can grow on them and cause allergies, avoid rubber and plastic rainproof material if you are allergic to them.  It is a good idea to wear loose-fitted cotton clothes instead of tight clothes made of synthetic fabric. Take a shower at least twice a day and avoid keeping any potted plants indoors.
