As we step into 2020, we as a society should have zero tolerance for wasting natural resources and water should be really on the top of the list. Recently, BMC set a good example of this by slapping hefty fine on National Sports Club of India.

NSCI in Mumbai has received a fine of whopping Rs 2.55 crore from the BMC over misuse of an existing water connection at NSCI facilities. The BMC sent a letter to the secretary of NSCI detailing the quantum of the pending payments while BMC officials also added that water was used for construction works at the place which is not permitted under civic body rules.

Meanwhile, one of the committee members of the NSCI, Viren Shah said “There was an outstanding payment by the ex-managing committee which was not paid and we have now paid the same. There was also an error in the calculation of amount which was earlier pegged at Rs 2.90 crore. Following recalculation, we have paid Rs 2.55 crore on Monday.”

The letter sent to the NSCI reads “The fraudulent/misuse of water has been calculated amounting to Rs2,55,58,030 from June 20, 2003 to December 31, 2019 as per water charges rule.”

The existing NSCI location was set up originally in 1950 while the country’s first NSCI was originally established in Delhi.
