Mumbai- With a view to keep a tab on speeding cars, the BMC plans to bring in Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras which will help in capturing the number plates of the speeding cars. As per the instructions from the traffic police, BMC will place 40 ANPR cameras which will help in lowering the rate of accidents in the city. 40 cameras will be placed on Marine Drive, Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway. Offenders will also get e-challans in case of offence. The estimated cost will be Rs. 2, 45, 71. Abmatica Technology is the company that has been given the mandate to supply the cameras, the proposal is likely to be discussed in the forthcoming civic standing committee meeting.
