Days ahead of the Holi festival, which will be celebrated on Friday, March 18, the Maharashtra State Road and Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to operate special buses for Konkan.

This development came after the state transport minister Anil Parab announced that the state road transport corporation will operate 100 special buses to cater to the rush of those headed for Konkan for the Holi festival.

The bus services started on Wednesday, March 16, and will continue till March 27.

Buses will be available from Mumbai Central, Parel, Kurla, Borivali, Thane, Vasai, Nalasopara and Panvel to Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli and Sawantwadi, an official said.

A large number of people go to their villages for Holi. In some places, ST Corporation's strike is still going on, in such a situation, private buses are charging more fare from the passengers, such complaints have been received. Transport Minister Anil Parab directed the Transport Commissioner to take immediate cognizance of the complaint and constitute an investigation team.

Holi and Ganeshotsav are celebrated with great enthusiasm and devour in Konkan. Lakhs of people from Mumbai go to their respective villages in Konkan for this festival. Meanwhile, it also popularly known for tourism, hence the number of travelers increases significantly during these festival. This time, Holi brings a long weekend with itself along with a significant drop in COVID-19 cases attracting lot of tourits.

Meanwhile, the Transport Department has also announced additional buses from Pune, Satara, Sangli and other areas.

In addition, the Central Railways (CR) have also announced several holi special trains from Mumbai to various districts in Maharashtra.
