A big relief for those who are planning to buy electric vehicles in Mumbai. 330 new e-charging stations will be set up in 26 areas of Mumbai in next two months. As there is a dearth of charging stations for electric vehicles, many prefer petrol-diesel vehicles. To make it easier for citizens to charge their vehicles near their homes or in their vicinity, the BEST has undertaken the construction of e-charging stations. 

The air quality in Mumbai is deteriorating and has surpassed Delhi with regards to air pollution. Since the last few days, the air index has been recorded at 310 AQI. Ongoing constructions, mining activities in Mumbai, besides factory smoke, exhaust gases from vehicles are factors responsible for pollution.

As the number of vehicles in Mumbai is in large numbers, so is pollution. Hence, emphasis is being given now to make Mumbai, pollution free. As a part of this, to encourage the purchase of e-vehicles, the facility of e-charging is being provided in Mumbai where a charging facility for all vehicles including three wheeler, four wheeler, van, and bus will be made available. These centres will also be open for public use along with BEST buses.

The BEST administration has informed that at these charging stations, e-vehicle users will get to charge at modest rates. It has been decided to set up a charging station neat Borivali railway station area along with the Borivali Nancy Colony bus stop. The work of setting up the charging station is in progress.

A total of 330 charging stations will be set up in total 26 bus depots which includes Colaba, Mumbai Central, Worli, Wadala, Bandra, Sion Pratiksha Nagar, Dharavi, Maheshwari Udyan, Santacruz, Deonar, Shivaji Nagar, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Kurla, Marol, Dindoshi, Magathane, Goregaon, Oshiwara, Malvani, Poisar, Gorai, Malad, Backbay and Aanik.
