Central government has planned construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail line as a quick means of communication to reduce the burden of vehicles and passengers on road transport. 129 hectares of land of the forest department in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar district was affected in this project. Central, state governments have approved the proposal to transfer the land of the forest department for the bullet train project.


Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed railway line is being constructed by National High Speed Railway Corporation. 129 hectare land of forest department in Thane, Palghar, Mumbai Suburban district of mountain was available for the construction. A proposal was sent by the Corporation to the Ministry of Forests and Climate Change, Government of India for acquisition of this land.

The Divisional Integrated Office of the Department of Forests and Climate Change, Government of India at Nagpur has approved the transfer of land to the National High Speed Rail Corporation subject to the area of forest land and afforestation and other conditions. The proposal was pending with the revenue and forest department of the state government. During the tenure of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the proposal of land acquisition in Mumbai, Thane district for bullet train project was shelved. These stalled proposals were cleared after the formation of the government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state. The revenue and forest department of the state government has approved the land transfer of the forest department in July.


For the last four to five years, since the forest department was not getting possession of the land, the corporation was facing obstacles in starting the railway project in Thane, Palghar, Mumbai areas. Those barriers are now gone. The process of this transfer has been carried out under the guidance of the Chief Project Manager of the Corporation and the Corporation has announced that the documents of this land are available in the office of the Corporation.


These lands will be diverted for the land project

  • Ghansoli, Mhape, Advali, Bhutawali, Sheel, Agasan, Mhatardi, in Navi Mumbai area of Thane district

  • Bharodi, Dive, Anjur, Kasheli, Kalher, Kopar, Kevani, Kharbav, Malodi, Payegaon, Paye, in Bhiwandi district

  • Nangle, Sasunbaghar, Mori, Kasbe, Kaman, Bapane, Chandrapada, Tiwari, Rajavali, More, Virar, Bhatpada, Chandansar, Kopari, Shirgaon, Paskopari, Narangi, in Vasai district 

  • Tembhi Khodave, Jalsar, Mithaghar, Makunsar, Kelve Road, Kamare, Navli, Bevur, Gholveer, Nandore, Padghe, Betegaon, Khanivadi, Mahagaon, Shigaon, Hanumannagar in Palghar district 

  • Forest land in Dahanu district includes Vanai, Dehane, Kotambi, Chari, Aswe, Vasantwadi, Gauravadi, Ambesari, Jitgaon, Gagangaon, Talasari Kawad, Zari, Patilwada, Varavade, Amgaon, Ulpat
