According to officials, these new 15-coach local trains will operate as fast services between Churchgate and Virar. This is expected to reduce travel time and ease crowding during peak hours. Although the exact number of services and the detailed timetable have not yet been announced, sources indicate that four to six 15-coach trains may be introduced in the initial phase.
In 2020–21, the combined average daily passenger count between Vaitarna, Saphale, Kelva Road, Palghar, Umroli, Boisar, Vangaon, and Dahanu Road was around 1 lakh. Today, this number has increased to nearly 2.5 lakh daily. The introduction of 15-coach trains will directly benefit commuters on the Virar–Dahanu route.
Senior railway officials also confirmed that along with the new services, work on the third and fourth railway lines between Virar and Dahanu Road is progressing rapidly. This project, implemented by MRVC, is targeted for completion by the end of the current financial year.
