The Western Railways which had resumed the AC local trains for essential service personnel, witnesses a little response even after a month of its commencement post lockdown. As per the data available, so far, only 341 tickets and 315 passes have been sold.

According to Western Railway, 179 tickets and 197 monthly passes were issued on the first 15 days of October obtaining an income of around 4 lakhs.

As per the latest records, on November 1, 5 tickets and 12 passes went on sale. On November 8, it is understood that only 4 tickets and 9 passes were sold. A total of 162 tickets and 118 passes were sold till date in November.

Western Railways have earned a total income of Rs 6, 55, 000. To prevent a rapid spread of the coronavirus, the government had instructed all the government and private offices to shut down AC systems. Even private vehicle owners were advised to shut off or control their temperature of AC.

Initially, when the AC locals launched locomotive on October 15, there were 10 rounds of the local in Churchgate-bound trains. Recently, two rounds were extended in order to increase commuters’ smooth and comfortable journey but it did not receive the expected response from the passengers. The passenger capacity of an AC local is 5,964. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, only 700 passengers are allowed to travel on a single locomotive.
