In a significant move towards pushing for green mobility, the Maharashtra government has announced a complete toll waiver for all four-wheeler electric passenger vehicles and buses on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and Samruddhi Mahamarg.
Additionally, a 50 per cent toll concession will be given on other state and national highways under the jurisdiction of the state Public Works Department (PWD).
This comes as the state cabinet on Tuesday, April 29, approved the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy, 2025.
Moreover, the state government has exempted all electric vehicles sold and registered in Maharashtra from motor vehicle tax and registration certificate or renewal fees.
The government will also offer discounts on the purchase of EVs till 2030.
With this, the government aims to encourage usage of EVs.
As per the statement issued by the Chief Minister Office (CMO), a 10 per cent discount will be offered against the original price of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers (non-transport), and buses of state transport undertakings and private, state/urban transport undertakings.
“Manufacturing and consumption will get a boost due to this concession and subsidies,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in a statement.
It further mentioned that the policy will remain in force till 2030. “For implementation of this policy for the next five years, a provision of INR 1993 crore has been made,” said the CM.
To ensure that those buying these EVs don’t face charging issues, the state government has assured it will create charging facilities and infrastructure at every 25 km distance on the state and national highways, the statement added.
