Soon, commuters traveling to Badlapur and Asangaon will get to travel in 15-car rake as the Central Railway is planning to augment all 12-car rakes to 15-car rakes on the fast corridor. CR to spend ₹900 for increasing platform lengths and procurement of coaches. The said plan has been sent to Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) for an approval.

Currently, the CR runs sixteen 15-car services — which was introduced in October 2012 — on its fast corridor, but only between  Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahara Terminus and Kalyan.

However, beyond Kalyan, the length of platforms is not enough to accommodate 15-car trains, hence, the CR is planning to extend the platforms but in phase wise. Saying this, at CSTM, only platform No.7 can accommodate 15-car trains.

An official told Times Of India, 

The augmentation work will be carried out in phases. In phase I, work will be carried out up to Badlapur and in the subsequent phase, up to Asangaon. The work will also include setting up of stabling lines big enough to accommodate 15-car trains near Ambernath and Badlapur. Also, pit lines will have to be developed for maintenance-related activities.”
