Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has informed that the first phase of Metro 3 i.e. Bandra to Seepz route will be operational by the end of next year or by January. He further added that 54 percent of the work of the car shed at Aarey has been completed and the government is trying to complete the work by December. He was interacting with the media in a recently held press conference in Mumbai

Speaking on the final week proposal on the last day of the budget session, Fadnavis told the current status of all metro projects in Mumbai including Metro 3. This is the most important project for Mumbai and this 40 km underground metro project is the longest single line project in Asia. However, during the Mahavikas Aghadi government, the issue of Aarey Carshed arose. So nothing was done for three years.

After the new government came in, the moratorium on the work of the car shed was lifted. The work was stalled, resumed. All the work of the car shed will be completed by next December. Therefore, the first phase between Bandra and Seepz will be operational, explained Fadnavis.

He said that the third and fourth trains will also arrive in Mumbai soon. Fadnavis informed that 80 percent of the Metro 3 project has been completed. A total length of 337 km metro works are underway in the Mumbai metropolitan area. Between 2014 and 2019, metro work was undertaken on a large scale. At that time, this project of 337 km was a dream of many people. But today, nine of these major corridors have reached 40 to 70 percent occupancy.

Today, a total of 338 km of metro works are underway. There are a total of 14 routes, more than 225 stations and these works are worth more than one and a half lakh crores. Fadnavis highlighted that one crore passengers are planning to travel by metro by 2031.
