BEST's Re.1 freedom plan extended till the end of August

The department launched the program as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations and also as a means to boost digitalisation.

In 2022, India completes 75 years of freedom and steps into 76th year of Independence. Marking the same, the Government of India along with several state governments launched schemes for public benefit. One among them was the 'freedom plan' for Mumbaikars, whereby the the Bombay Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) offered one rupee commute service in the city.

This was launched on August 1, 2022, and officials informed that the benefit has received overwhelming response from Mumbaikars. Considering the same, the department has planned to extend the 'freedom plan' up to August 31, 2022.

Sharing more information, an official from BEST told the Free Press Journal, “Around 1 lakh Mumbaikars used Re 1 BEST freedom plan in the last 12 days."

The department launched the program as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations and also as a means to boost digitalisation. Under this initiative, people from Mumbai were able to travel by BEST buses to any location by paying just INR 1 per ticket.

Sharing more details, the General Manager of BEST, Lokesh Chandra, told the publication, “This one-time scheme is available for new users of the Chalo App. For a period of seven days, beneficiaries can hop on for five rides on any BEST bus, irrespective of the routes. Earlier, this offer was available till August 15, but now we have extended it up to August 31."

Representatives also informed that the commuters can now the download a pass for INR 1 which wil be valid for both AC and non-AC bus services. Making the most of the program, Mumbaikars caled this initiative to be one that is good and one that encourages the use of the new digital ticketing system. Moreover, this was become one of the first choices for  short distance travel in the city.

Officials informed that commuters can avail the pass from the Chalo App and will have the access to unlimited rides on any bus route in the city. Commuters will have to pay INR 50 for using non-AC buses and will have to pay INR 60 for the daily pass.
