The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) in recent developments has announced that the city is to acquire 140 spacious new buses.

Moreover, these buses are to be 12 metres in length and also environment friendly as they run on electricity. The first bus arrived on Friday, June 25. In addition, BEST plans to increase its fleet from 3,300 to over 4,000 buses and is inducting not just AC electric but also 700 more buses including AC Mini and CNG buses in the coming days.

According to reports, the new buses will have CCTV surveillance cameras to record 72 hours at a stretch keeping in view women's safety concerns.

Meanwhile, the work performed by Maharashtra's BEST post the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdowns has been recognized by the World Health Organization and another recognition has been added one more feather in the hat.

Furthermore, BEST's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Anil Kumar Singal, has been invited by the World Health Organization to be an external expert consultant for the COVID Free Campaign. Moreover, this campaign was launched jointly by the World Health Organization (WHO), G20 leader country, European Commission, FIND, and Melinda & Bill Gate Foundation.
