As heavy rains lashes the city again this monsoon, a road caved in near an under-construction metro station in South Mumbai's Girgaon area on Monday morning, August 16. Owing to this, a BEST bus reportedly got stuck in the pit.

The incident took place at the Girgaon metro station, which is expected to open for public use in a couple of months. Videos of the incident have surfaced on the internet.

There are no reports of any injuries to any individual in the incident as of now.

In the video, it can be seen that the rear tyre of the BEST bus stuck in the section of the road that has caved in. The vehicle is partially tilted on the road and barricades are seen around it to prevent damage to any other vehicle. The bus driver and the conductor can be seen standing near the bus.

This is the second such incident within a month. A major road cave-in was reported near Kemps Corner in South Mumbai’s Grant Road area on May 26, affecting traffic flow in the vicinity.

Commenting on this, Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad said: "The contractor raj Sarkar has thoroughly ruined the city's infrastructure."

The incident occurred when a portion of the road connecting Kemps Corner to Mukesh Chowk developed wide cracks before collapsing completely. The sudden cave-in led to a BEST bus getting trapped at the site, forcing authorities to halt vehicular movement in the area.

The road collapse took place near the Gangar showroom, a well-known landmark, and traffic was entirely shut down on the route heading from Kemps Corner towards Nepean Sea Road.

The heavy downpour, since Sunday evening, June 15, across Mumbai has led to traffic congestion and flight delays, affecting daily commuters and travellers alike.

IMD issued a warning predicting heavy rainfall for Mumbai and the surrounding MMR region for the next few hours.
