BEST launches drive to popularise Churchgate-Gateway rides
SHARES

Churchgate- The Bombay Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) has started making announcements for its bus service from Churchgate railway station to Gateway of India.

The move has been initiated to allow cheap, easy and safe transportation to tourists and to curb practices of taxi drivers who often fleece tourists by charging exorbitant fares for the short ride.

Many foreign tourists, Mumbaikars as well as those from other cities visit the Gateway of India, a major tourist attraction. Taxi drivers exploit visitors charging them with Rs 20 to 30 for reaching passengers to and fro.

The BEST says it will not allow taxi drivers to park their taxis for use on 'sharing' basis near the railway station.

BEST employees have now started making announcements on loudspeakers to make tourists aware of the service.
The fallout is that taxi drivers have now slashed their fares for the ride from Rs 20 to Rs 10.
