BEST is all set to ply 37 Tejaswini buses for women. They have already received 3 buses in Dharavi depot.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is all set to ply 37 'Tejaswini' buses in Mumbai. It will be a mini non-air conditioned women's special bus and 3 buses have already reached Dharavi depot. The buses will hit the road as soon as it gets clearance from the Regional Transport Office (RTO).     




The bus will in yellow colour and will be started with the aim of providing safe and comfortable travel for women commuters. Notably, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) had already started 10 air-conditioned Tejaswini buses since last year. The Maharashtra government had provided a subsidy of ₹11.50 crores to BEST for Tejaswini buses.

Public Relation Officer (PRO) of BEST Manoj Warade stated that the buses will be plying from 7-11 am and 5-9 pm i.e. during peak hours. Moreover, the frequency of the buses will be increased after it receives a good response from the commuters. 

BEST is operating double-decker buses for women commuters in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)- National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA) route in South Mumbai. After BEST reduced its minimum fare to ₹5 in June, it has come up with many other revolutionary moves to give impetus to public transport in Mumbai.
