1000 E-Bikes to be rolled out by BEST from October

Information shared by the officials confirms that around 1000 e-bikes will be deployed at 180 bus stops as well as in commercial and residential areas. In the first few days, the e-bike service will be provided in selected locations across Mumbai.

The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), on Thursday, September 29, 2022,  made a big announcement for Mumbaikars. As per reports, the municipal corporation is planning on introducing bike service in the city and this will help all Mumbaikars commute easily from one location to another. Moreover, efforts are being made to start this all over Mumbai from October 2022. 

Information shared by the officials confirms that around 1000 e-bikes will be deployed at 180 bus stops as well as in commercial and residential areas. In the first few days, the e-bike service will be provided in selected locations across Andheri, Vileparle, Juhu, Dadar, and Mahim. Post this, the service will be expanded to other areas across Mumbai. 

Currently, Vogo service is being provided in Mumbai and on the same lines, the government plans to introduce this facility across the city. Talks are underway to plan this in different parts of Maharashtra too, however, no official announcement has been made yet.

E-bikes certainly have several advantages and one of the primary ones include green energy. To promote the same and healthy living, arrangements are being made by the department across major bus stops in commercial and residential areas in the above-mentioned locations. The department has also planned to offer this at highly affordable rent, where the base fare will be just INR 20, along with INR 3 per km travel and INR 1.50 per minute. 

The speed limit has also been set to a limited 15 km per hour which is very safe for city trips. Moreover, keeping the green energy aspect in mind, there will be no air or noise pollution. On the other hand, e-bikes do not emit any kind of pollution. 

On the commute front, this will also serve as a way for faster travel on less congested roads. Users can drive the e-bike without a license. Keeping many such benefits in mind, officials have confirmed on bringing these into service by BEST and collaborations might be held with Vogo. 

Commoners people can take advantage of this bike, as this is also gearless and easy to unlock. One can select the bike,  ride them and then lock them again after using. One can rent this bike through the Chalo app and payment for the rent amount can be made online through UPI.
