Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is leaving no stone unturned to make their customers happier. After an enormous dip in their fares and the ever-increasing fleet, BEST will now start special buses only for women. These buses will only ply during peak hours of the weekdays i.e. 87-11 am and 5-9 pm. There will be 37 special buses for women in the high-density areas like Lower Parel, Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point and Malad.

These buses will be called as Tejaswini buses and during the non-peak hours, it will run as normal non-AC buses. BEST already runs a women special double-decker bus from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station to National Centre of Performing Arts(NCPA), Nariman Point. The total number of BEST commuters are over 3 million with 4-5 lakh women commuters.
The state government has granted ₹11 crores for this initiative and is further planning to keep a woman conductor on these buses. As stated in the Times of India, a member of BEST panel Sunil Ganacharya said that the buses will commence in 4 months.
