The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently made a significant announcement, revealing the cancellation of the tender proposal for the construction of Metro Line 12. Revised Plans for Metro Line 12
Under the revised plans, Metro Line 12 will be extended to Pendhar, rather than terminating at Taloja. The new bid will include the integration of Metro Line 12 with the Navi Mumbai Metro 1, facilitating a hassle-free interchange for passengers at appropriate stations. Improved Connectivity and Public Transportation
The initial proposal for Metro Line 12 outlined a 20.75-kilometer route, addressing the need for an efficient public transportation network in the extended suburbs. With the revised plans, this metro line will become an extension of the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro Line 5, commonly referred to as the Orange Line. The integration of Metro Line 12 with Lines 4 and 4A (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Kasarvadavali-Gaimukh lines) will enable seamless travel for passengers from the eastern suburbs, allowing them to reach Taloja by changing lines at two stations.

The cancellation of the previous tender proposal for Metro Line 12 may cause a delay in the project's completion. However, the revised plans aim to address the challenges associated with the construction, including the rehabilitation of structures in congested areas of Kalyan and other locations along the route. The project, estimated to cost Rs 1,521.80 crore, will consist of 17 stations along the route. These stations will be located at key points such as Ganesh Nagar, Pisavali Gaon, Golavali, Dombivali MIDC, Sagaon, Manpada, Sonarpada, Hedutane, Kolegaon, Nilje Gaon, Vadavali, Bale, Waklan, Turbhe, Pisarve Depot, Pisarve, and Taloja. The inclusion of these stations strategically caters to the commuting needs of residents and enhances connectivity with other existing and future metro lines in the region.
