On February 25, the Bombay High Court approved the Maharashtra Maritime Board's (MMB) request to build three ferry jetties in the western suburbs of Mumbai along with the Thane district.

The decision came out after a division of Justices B R Gavai and N J Jamadar was hearing a petition filed by MMB seeking permission to carry out work on three of its projects in regard to proposed ferry jetty services in Mumbai and Thane.

The ferry jetty services are set to begin between Borivali and Gorai in Mumbai, a passenger jetty at Ghodbunder in Thane and roll-on and roll-off jetty services at Manori.

It is expected that the proposed projects will assist in decongesting the city's traffic in the western suburbs and will also contribute to connecting the eastern suburbs with the city. The petition further stated that the project would be a boost for developing a sustainable water transportation system in Mumbai.
