On Sunday, June 13, Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab announced that the services of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRTC) buses in Mumbai will be withdrawn from Monday, June 14.
As the suburban railway services were suspended for the general public during the lockdown imposed due to the second wave of coronavirus, MSRTC buses were deployed in Mumbai to help Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) to avoid the impact on public transport.
''Thanks to the drivers, conductors, employees and officers of MSRTC who came from other villages and provided their services to ferry the city passengers,'' said Parab.
ही सेवा उद्यापासून थांबवण्यात येत आहे.

This comes at the time when the local trains in the suburb have not opened their gates for the general public even as Mumbai has reached the Level 2 phase of unlocking.

However, the BEST resumed the local bus service for all in Mumbai from June 7. The BEST has been allowed to carry passengers with full seating capacity and no standing passengers will be allowed. Besides, wearing of face mask will be mandatory for every passenger.
Amid the second wave of coronavirus, the state government, under the 'Break The Chain' initiative, had not suspended the city’s public transport but had imposed strict restrictions in April. Earlier, only 50 per cent seating capacity was allowed on BEST buses.
