The Central Railway Administration has taken up a campaign to take action against ticketless passengers. In the last 10 months, as many as 18,8000 ticketless passengers have been arrested and a fine of INR 100 crore has been collected from them. The railway administration is repeatedly urging people to travel by train with valid ticket. However, as per the said statistics it is evident that passengers are ignoring it.
A special ticket checking drive is underway in Suburban, Mail-Express to curb ticketless and irregular journeys on Central Railway. Between April 2022 and February 2023, 18,8000 ticketless passengers were found travelling in railways without valid tickets.
Earlier, in the financial year 2019-20, maximum penalty was levied in Mumbai division. At that time, action was taken in 15.73 lakh cases and INR 76.82 crore were recovered as fine. Ticket Inspector S. Nainani recovered a fine of INR 1.50 crore from 17,128 cases of ticketless travel between April 2022 and February 2023. Ticket Inspector Bhim Reddy collected a fine of INR 96.35 lakh from 10,409 cases.
